I would like to offer a theory based on the concept of socialization i.e. the process whereby a culture teaches its members about its beliefs, customs, habits and language (Kenrick, Neuberg & Cialdini, 2007). In this context, it refers to how our sophomore/junior batch was socialized in comparison to the current freshmen batch and this feature is telling since both batches came from the same learning institution in
The prominent factor that distinguishes the socialization of these two batches is the time spent learning in
This familiarity has led us to increase our circle of friends and to trust members of our own group to provide social support, diminishing the need to seek help from people from their out-group. Besides that, our batch came in a large number and all lived in the same apartment complex far from campus (approx. 1.2 km to downtown) which contributes to us more willing to invest and share our material and emotional resources among each other.
In contrast, the freshmen had one year of study in

Well, we hope so. It's just that most of the people who doesn't join the mainstream community talk bad about us behind our back that makes us a little bit skeptical.
But never fear, not whole lot of you guys are like that. Probably, once they spread out and mingle with more people, the acceptance and understanding will be much assimilated.
For sure, our perception towards the 'special group' is not always a bad one. We try to understand and believe they could change if they are willing to do so. If their heart says no, then we can't do anything about it. However, don't expect the big community to change according to your flow, better follow the flow than against it.
I don't really get the comment above. Honestly, who are the "ppl who doesn't join the mainstream community"? Cus if it meant the ppl in Allen Park, then, well, that is not true.
I know so.
And who do you mean by "us"?
Does "us" imply the mainstream community?
Confused.
I reckon you misunderstood the context. Your last two paragraphs say so :)
I'm pointing to the few people at Allen Park who doesn't join the community MUCH (bukan xjoin langsung!), not everyone at Allen Park.
By meaning "us", let just say those who are more passionate about the community than the rest of Malaysian at Penn State. Oh yes, there are only a handful of us here. Not generalizing to everyone in MASA.
I'm not blaming anyone nor speculating anything here. My comments are intended for the good of Malaysian at Penn State. As I see that we are a strong community compared to other university in the States. We are here as a community, so working in a community is a must. Therefore, if we work together. Nobody will be left behind.
I have only good perceptions and intentions here for everyone. I know everyone here and i know everyone has their own character. Guiding people how to channel those "characters" into good is my main priority here.
As I previously posted, we can only give advice, it's up to those who had been advised to choose their own outcome. I don't like to force people to do against his/her will.
Anyway, good job for this year's MASA activities. Thank you for all your help and hope we can work for a better MASA in the future!
